This document provides information & images about Coronal Mass Ejections [CME] which have been recorded by the Mauna Loa Solar Observatory [MLSO], which is located on the island of Hawaii. This page is supported by a grant from the National Space Weather Program.
These three images were recorded on August 17, 1989 by the Mark-III K-Coronameter Telescope at the Mauna Loa Solar Observatory. They show a coronal mass ejection (southeast or lower left corner) as it moved outward through the field of view at an estimated speed of 2000 kilometers per second (4.3 million miles per hour).
